Armenia wants to close bookmakers

In the near future, the authorities in Armenia may decide to close all land-based bookmakers located in the country due to the large increase in the number of residents who have become addicted to gambling. Such an initiative is also advocated by. O. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
“The process of closing all bookmakers on the territory of Armenia must be carried out in several stages. First of all, we must introduce significant restrictions on their activities, after which all bookmaker offices in Armenia will be closed, ”Nikol Pashinyan said, speaking in parliament.
According to him, it will not be possible to immediately close the bookmaker’s offices in the country, due to the fact that the real estate market in Armenia, which is currently showing significant growth, will collapse after that.
However, bookmakers are confident that it is completely inappropriate to prohibit their work in Armenia, since the danger for people is not their offices, but various gambling halls and casinos.
Note that in Armenia the work of bookmakers is regulated by only two documents: the Law on Licensing, adopted back in 2001, and the Law on Lotteries adopted in 2003. According to legislative regulations, bookmaker organizers receive an unlimited permit for their activities, and a license is issued to them by the Lottery Licensing Commission. The license is unlimited, but the Commission has the right to conduct inspections of offices. Currently, about 300 bookmaker offices operate legally in the Republic of Armenia. Experts also talked about how gambling laws will affect the country’s economy.
