The finished thesis evidences critical and independent thinking, subject expertise, appropriate organization and format, and thorough documentation. At the oral defence the candidate must successfully defend the contents of the thesis, demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of research methods appropriate to the topic and fields of study; and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the literature in the field s and the work of other scholars. This is used only when a student’s performance has been satisfactory and successful completion of the remaining assignments or final examination would enable the student to pass.
Once the student has completed the additional enrolment, the TR grade will remain on the original enrolment and a final grade assigned to the last enrolment.

With Distinction A thesis that is judged to be outstanding in the top percent may be recommended to be awarded distinction. A student’s grade point average GPA for a group of courses is calculated by determining the thesks point value for each course which has been assigned a grade, multiplying the course credit value by the numerical equivalent of thesiz grade, adding up all the resulting values, and then dividing by the total number of course credits for the period under review.
A thesis is a systematic study of a significant problem, issue, or phenomenon. The supervisor and the student work together to ensure that the recommended changes are executed satisfactorily.

The second oral defence should be rescheduled within three months of the first defence. Outright pass; minor copy-editing revisions to be reviewed by Supervisor prior to submission to Library. In general, questions are limited to work relevant to the thesis and to knowledge theis matters directly related to it.
To cover additional grading costs, students will be assessed a fee in accordance with the University’s approved ancillary fees. Students may be permitted to extenion a course upon approval from the Dean or designate.

Normally, all Supervisory Committee members would hold a doctorate, but in exceptional circumstances, individuals with extensive practitioner experience who are recognized as an expert in the field would be eligible to serve as Supervisor or Committee Member.

The thesis identifies a problem or issue, states the research question, thesia major assumptions, explains the significance for extwnsion undertaking, grounds the research in relevant literature, sets forth the methods of gathering information, analyzes the data and offers a conclusion or recommendations based on the data and theoretical framing.
Extenaion thesis requires changes and additions including additional illustrative material, recasting of certain sections, additional data inclusion, and editing. A grade of AEG is a transcript notation, accompanied by a final letter grade, authorized by the Dean or equivalent in situations when a student has been unable to complete their course work or write a final examination due to documented illness or personal circumstance but who has achieved an overall satisfactory standing in the course.
Thesis acceptable, oral defence unacceptable.
The thesis does not meet the minimum standards; no reasonable amount of research and rewriting will raise it to a level of acceptability. Though it is the responsibility rrk the student and all members of the Supervisory Committee to avoid conflict of interest, the Office of the Vice Provost, Research and Interdisciplinary Studies is charged with ensuring that all members of the Supervisory Committee are aware of this responsibility.

At least one of the members of the Thesis Supervisory Committee must hold a doctorate. The Office of the Vice Provost, Research and Interdisciplinary Studies retains the authority to reject a recommended external examiner based upon a real or perceived conflict of interest which has not been anticipated in the existing criteria.
Thesis acceptable, oral defence acceptable. The new deadline date must be forwarded by the School Director or faculty designate to the Registrar’s Office.

Theses in non-traditional formats must be accompanied by a PDF summary minimum 2, wordswhich is the only component that is electronically submitted and archived. In general, the committee finds that the thesis does not meet the minimum standards but agrees that the candidate has the potential, with additional preparation, to successfully defend a revised thesis.
