When the attacker came to take the money, it turned out that the amount was not 10,000, as they expected, but 10 million. It turned out that for winnings of more than $ 600, employees of the lottery operator check whether the ticket was actually purchased by the person who presented it. They watched video footage from the sales office and realized that the ticket could have been stolen.
The victim himself suggested that one of his neighbors, to whom he told about the win, could change the ticket while he was sleeping. He contacted the police, who investigated and found out who did it. When the attacker came for the money two weeks later, he was arrested.
It happened quite recently in Vacaville, California. The story was published by the city police department on its Facebook page. And this is a good lesson for those who are too gullible.
