UK regulator tightens VIP player scrutiny

The UK gambling regulator (UKGC) has been thinking for several months about how to wean operators from promoting large players as much as possible. In some cases, this leads to sad consequences. After consulting with industry representatives, the UKGC decided to introduce new rules.

From October 31st, operators will be required to conduct checks before a player can obtain VIP status. This includes checks on income sources, type of business and identity. Plus, regular checks for gambling addiction should be carried out.

The operators were also made responsible for ensuring that the VIP player’s expenses were not excessive, given that gambling is a form of entertainment. And for the new rules to be taken seriously, operators must have a senior executive who will be personally responsible for maintaining order in the VIP segment.
